Burlingame Family Sanctuary
After more than 20 years of being loved and lived in, this family home was ready for its long-awaited transformation. Sue Subbotin Interiors worked closely with the owner, a trained architect, to reimagine the home while preserving its history, integrity, and unique sense of character.
The home was taken down to the studs, the staircase was relocated, and the entire floor plan was reworked to create a natural flow between spaces. Every room was designed with comfort and everyday family life in mind. The living room was opened visually by reworking the fireplace mantel and adding custom curved sofas that beautifully frame it. The kitchen was opened to create a welcoming family room, while a former closet was transformed into a custom bar, with a thoughtful tile niche for the dog’s water bowl.
Layered details, including William Morris and Scalamandré wallpapers, custom wainscoting, and carefully aligned architectural elements, bring warmth and personality throughout. The result is a home that feels both beautifully considered and unmistakably personal, a true family sanctuary.
