Sue Subbotin Riviello

ASID allied, Principal

For more than 40 years, Sue Subbotin Riviello has created interiors that enrich the way people live. As founder and principal of her namesake firm, Sue Subbotin Interiors, she is known for designing livable spaces that feel layered, authentic, and deeply personal with inspiration drawn from nature, architecture, travel, and the unique stories of each client she works with.

Sue studied at the University of California, Davis and furthered her education of Interior Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York City and Paris. Early career experiences in New York and Paris, including work at the prestigious Kenneth Alpert Associates, whose clientele included Mary Tyler Moore, shaped her sophisticated yet relaxed design perspective and exceptional eye for detail.

Her work has been recognized through participation in multiple Decorator Showhouses, a Gentry magazine "Best Family Home" Award for a fully renovated Menlo Park residence, features in regional publications and on the Martha Stewart website, and a signature vignette created for the opening of San Francisco Exploratorium. She has also taught Introduction to Interior Design, bringing the same passion and precision to aspiring designers that she brings to every client project. Sue also remains actively involved in supporting charitable and community organizations through donations and volunteer efforts, believing strongly in giving back through both design and service.

At the heart of Sue's philosophy is a simple belief: every home should reflect the people who live there. Her mission: creating homes that are layered, natural, never overly decorated, and always built for the way families actually live.

About Sue Subbotin Interiors

Sue Subbotin Riviello founded her California-based namesake interior design firm to create homes that bring comfort, beauty, and a sense of inner joy to the people who live in them.

Every project is tailored to each client's lifestyle, personality, and vision. Whether reimagining a single room or overseeing a full-home renovation, Sue designs spaces that feel approachable and uniquely personal. Her work, found around the U.S., spans mountain homes, lake houses, wine country retreats, beach houses, and both city and suburban residences. All of which are thoughtfully designed to reflect both the environment and the people it belongs to.

Inspired by nature, architecture, travel, and the layering of old and new, Sue creates interiors that are sophisticated yet comfortable, refined yet livable. Every home should feel curated over time with an authentic, welcoming charm, entirely your own.
